Survey Results from 2002 and Later

JAN 2003 FUNDSVCS SURVEY: Dealing with Duplicate Records

I did a quick survey on FundSvcs regarding Duplicate Records. Both the questions and responses may be downloaded by "right-clicking" here and then select Save Target as... (MS Internet Explorer) or Save Link as... (Netscape) from the pop-up window.

Generally, users noted that Millennium has a good duplicate finder and merge utility. Benefactor has a complex duplicate finder and can only merge bio records. A PeopleSoft user noted a tool provided by First Logic that provides this functionality for PS. Banner & Advance users reported that such utilities are not part of those packages. Although no Raiser's Edge users responded, I believe that, at least, RE:Win 7 has such capabilities. A key point made by all was to implement effective procedures to avoid creating new duplicate records!!!

WEB SUCCESSES: (Fall  2002) - What benefits & successes have you had using the Internet in Advancement?

The prior Survey identified that many are using the Web/Internet in their development efforts. Based on this input, I wanted to gather some information about your successes/progress with using the Internet. The April 2002 CASE Currents reports that "online gifts amount to less than 1 percent of total fund raising at most institutions." (Much of the data came from the excellent work of Mike Westfall of Virginia Tech in 2001. Click here to access/download his data.)

Are you in that range or doing better/worse? How else are you using the 'Net?

This survey captures information on "Web Results" -- that is, how are you using the web and what are your results for fund-raising, events & registration, membership, communications, etc?  Results include:

bulletFunds raised on the Web
bulletTransactions Processed on the Web

EXTRA'S SURVEY: (Summer 2002) - What are some of the "Extra's" supplementing your System?

This survey captures information on "Extras" -- that is, interfaces, planning giving and phonathon systems, research and directory services, Web usage, credit card & special gift processing technologies, PDA's, etc.

Sorts/selects for the 40+ responses to June 2003:
bulletInterfaces List - what typical loads and interfaces do folks use
bulletSpecial Software - who's using what packages/services for Planned Giving, Phonathon, Research/Screening, Directory Services, Web access tools, etc.
bulletPhonathon Systems/Services - which phonathon systems or vendors are folks using.
bulletWeb/Internet Access - what Web/Internet capabilities are folks using for Development Officers/Staff and for Constituent access.
bulletSpecial Gift Processing - what credit cards and automated gift capabilities are folks using.

As more data comes in, I will provide additional lists helping you to view it. I'll make sure and include some lists which link data from the prior submissions with this one.

BASIC SURVEY:  (Spring 2002) - What System are you Using?

Sorts/selects for the 130+ responses to June 2003:
bulletSort/select all data entered on vendor (list format) in ID #/entry order
bulletSort/select basic system data by vendor (table format)
with an ascending sort on # of users (e.g. smallest first)
bulletSort/select basic system data by vendor (table format)
with a descending sort on # of users (e.g., largest first)

BASIC SYSTEM DATA SUMMARY:

Here is a Summary Analysis of the nearly 200 respondents to the Basic Data survey through May 31, 2003.

Surveys & Results from 2000 and Earlier

bulletYear 2000 Advancement Services Salary & Staffing Survey A Survey of Advancement Services positions with their responsibilities and their salaries. This survey consolidates the information requested from the two prior 1998 surveys. Everybody is always asking about salary and staffing information. Survey summary through October 23, 2000 is HERE.
bulletAdvancement Recruiting and Skills Survey - What are the right skills for some key positions in Advancement Services? Where do you find the people to fill those positions? Here are the results of the May 2000.
bulletAdvancement Services Organization Survey A Survey of how Advancement Services is organized, named, and staffed at different institutions. Initiated in October 1998; this was used as part of the CASE on-line seminar on "Overview of Advancement Services." I have collected (and am still collecting) a number of organization charts that might be of interest.
bulletAdvancement Services Salary Survey A Survey of Key Advancement Services positions with their responsibilities and their salaries. Survey results from the Spring 1998 are posted here.
bulletAdvancement Services Comprehensive Survey We received 74 survey responses from schools with databases from 6,500 to 700,000 records as well as from several other organizations. Sort of out-of-date at this point, but I still get requests for the information. See the new survey page link above.
bulletThe FundSvcs Survey Input Form The entry form for the FundSvcs survey of hardware, software, phonathon, staffing/organization, comparative statistics, and other data relevant to Advancement Services operations .
bulletFundSvcs Survey Results Results from survey responses have been summarized and compiled through April 1997. Summaries show vendors, special technologies used, database and staff size ranges, job titles, and other information of interest.

The survey compilations were posted at the FundSvcs FTP site in Text, Excel and Access formats. The Text version is available for on-line viewing at this site. All versions may also be either copied or requested from the R I Arlington site.
